Morristown’s pledge to eat healthy and eat local is about to become a lot easier. The district won a $1,000 scholarship to plant a Victory Garden at the school thanks to its participation in this year’s Big Apple Crunch.
The Big Apple Crunch was first thought up by FarmOn!, a foundation working to fill the succession gap on family farms in rural America. FarmOn! works to create and fund educational programs that provide the next generation of farmers with the skills and experience they need to successfully continue to feed their communities.
Each year, millions of New Yorkers take part in the initiative, crunching into a locally grown apple to celebrate NY growers. Morristown’s win secures the district a Victory Garden kit from FarmOn!, which comes with a raised garden bed, educational videos, and organic seeds. Students and staff plan to get planting in the spring.
