Wellness

MAY 2023 - The Morristown Central School District’s Wellness Committee recently purchased an outdoor volleyball net with funds provided by the Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Project. This project has provided the district with $2,500 to spend on wellness initiatives for each year of the grant.

Volleyball has become very popular in our district.  This Fall the students were surveyed by their class leaders regarding how they would like to see the grant funds used this year.  Overwhelmingly, the students voted for an outdoor volleyball net.  This outdoor court has allowed students to take their love of volleyball outside the four walls of the gym and has added to the recess play offerings for elementary students as large volleyballs were also purchased.

In addition to the volleyball set, the school district was able to purchase brand new rubber encased dumbbells. These replaced our old metal dumbbells in our weight room and have provided a safer option for our students who are lifting free weights.

This volleyball net and dumbbell set were received from the Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Project, which is funded by the New York State Department of Health.

In addition to the basketball hoop, the school district was able to purchase a giant Jenga set for Grade 5 and 6 students. This activity takes a favorite sit-down game to a new life-sized level, requiring students to be physically active to participate and will provide for a great recess activity during inclement weather.

This basketball hoop and game set were received from the Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Project, which is funded by the New York State Department of Health.
